Tarot

By Astri Groth

Tarot is an ancient art of divination, surrounded by myth and mystery. Here Astri Groth talks about tarot as a medium, and helps us to understand what it is and how we can use it.

Tarot as a medium

The history of tarot cards is difficult to date. In some places it is written about the 14th century as the first documented origin, others all the way to before Christ. Then the Great Arkana with its archetypes is meant as a small beginning for playing cards and pictures. In 1909 came perhaps the most famous deck we use today, designed by Pamela Colman Smith, and published by Arthur Edward Waite, known as the Raider Waite Tarot. The tarot cards have a lot of history behind them. It is said that millionaires don't use them, but billionaires do, as help with finances and in life.

Tarot has long had an undeserved bad reputation, and has gone for being occult, dark and even dangerous, and for the cards to be related to demons and devil worship. It is probably at best an attempt to scare the common man in the street from using the cards, which in reality are an incredibly useful aid. At worst, it is an attempt to withhold knowledge and information about who we really are as human beings, what abilities we are born with, each and every one of us - scaring us from exploring our innate psychic abilities and God-given light and power.

I would so much like to be able to help give humanity back faith in itself, our world and each other! The tarot cards are one of several tools that can open unimagined doors in the life of those who learn the art properly. As a tarot enthusiast, I have been playing with the cards for many years. At first I used it for my own part for answers and guidance, help to stake out the way forward when it came to everything from a boyfriend, family relationships, buying a car, whether my dog was healthy, money, and much more. I used the cards as help for small and large things for most of my life. The magic of the cards in my experience is that they adapt to you as a reader, to your soul and your energy! They learn your language, so that way the cards are not the same for everyone.

The Tarot deck consists of two decks in one - the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana are the archetypes of life. It begins with the Fool and consists of 21 cards, such as The Devil, Death, the Wheel of Fate, the Sun, etc. These are the archetypes of our world, and the phases we go through in life. From birth to death, everything we encounter on the way, we grow and become older and wiser, we go through crises, grief and love. Finally, when we are fully trained, we come to the World. There is both an ending and a new beginning! The cards in the Major Arcana have a lot of meaning. They are unchanging and represent the things in life that happen to us whether we like it or not, and from which we learn and develop as people.

The Little Arkana is structured like a normal deck of cards with four elements, from 1 to 10, and with court cards - jack, queen, king. In addition to the suit, which is the little child, the card before the jack, and which represents a beginning. These cards also say yes, if it fits the question asked. As mentioned, the Minor Arcana has four elements to it, which say a lot about the energy of the situation or the person you are asking about, which is brilliant because it gives a lot of information and depth to the cards. These four elements are earth (coins), air (swords), fire (staffs), and water (cups). The Minor Arcana can say something about most things, but what these cards say can be done with, it is changeable, and one can ask - what is the best way for me to maneuver this situation?

For me, who lays cards every day, all day, there is no doubt that the tarot deck is channeled down to us so that we will have an aid for ourselves in difficult situations, and when we are stuck in choices and at crossroads in life . I use the cards for EVERYTHING and it has enriched my life a lot. Working with the cards has expanded my abilities to see and feel clairvoyance and my healing abilities. That's what I think it can do for many of us - to open up our abilities, which of course we already have, all of us. I know that you who read this are very skilled healers, seers, psychics, mediums, etc., but there are probably more of us who do not dare to open up or believe in our own abilities. Then the tarot cards are a help. As I see it, we are going forward these days, from the solar plexus to the heart, or from 3D to 5D. When we get there, there is no reason to use either a card or a pendulum or any other aid. Then we are where we should be, and we know it in our hearts and souls. But, as it is now, it can be a good help on the way there.

When you start with your first tarot deck, opening it up and holding the cards in your hands, it can feel reverent and solemn. That's a good thing! It is YOUR respect for YOUR life and abilities. We will keep it, all the way. The good thing to do is to always ground yourself, connect well to the Light, and Mother Earth. Also put a protection around yourself before and during

you read the cards. In addition, it is extremely important that you send away any feelings you may have about the questions you ask. If you are full of emotions about questions, or sincerely want a particular answer, or are afraid of an answer, then these emotions can affect the answer you get. Reset yourself as best you can and think about questions while shuffling and placing cards. It is also a good thing to lay with the left hand, as it is our feminine side, and our intuitive side of the body. This helps to let the answers come from your intuition, without the left hemisphere of the brain (logic and thoughts) taking over for you.

I hope this can inspire you to more self-development, learning and tarot reading! Play with the cards. If you don't understand what they want to say - ask again! Say; get a clearer answer please? And add one more time. It's like the energy grows with you and your cards the more you try and practice. So, with these very unique cards with you - go ahead, explore your abilities! Expand your unique expression as a healer, mediator and reader. My experience is that a good reader must also be a healer. It goes hand in hand. Working with the cards means that it happens in step with the experience you gain. I always say that a good reading is also healing. It doesn't get more exciting!
